Course Descriptions

119 - Editing with Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Xpress DV

This three-day course is an in-depth introduction to the techniques of nonlinear editing on the Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Xpress DV systems. The class progresses through all the basic phases of creating a sequence, including inputting source footage, assembling and trimming sequences, editing audio, creating titles, and outputting a finished program. Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on practice. The course is designed for video editors and developers of interactive media.

Prerequisites: Completion of a Windows or Macintosh introductory course or equivalent experience is recommended; a background in editing, production, or post-production is also recommended.

129 - Introduction to Avid Xpress Pro Effects

This two-day course is an in-depth introduces to the creating visual effects on Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Xpress DV editing systems. Topics include: creating multilayered effects, keyframing effects, creating effect templates, working with AVX plug-in effects, creating motion effects and timewarp effects, nesting layers, and working with the Xpress 3D effects. Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on-practice.

Prerequisites: Completion of the 119 Editing with Avid Xpress Pro and Avid Xpress DV course or equivalent experience.

101 - Editing with Avid Media Composer

This three-day course introduces the concepts of nonlinear editing and includes all basic features of the Avid Media Composer system for Macintosh and Windows. Session time is divided between demonstration and hands-on practice, with ample time for experimentation with sample material. Students will use Avid Media Composer to digitize and organize source footage, edit sync and non-sync material, trim sequences, edit audio, create titles, and output work. The final product will be a finished program. This course is also appropriate for Avid Symphony users.

Prerequisites: Designed for the novice Avid Media Composer editor, no familiarity with the system is necessary. Completion of a Macintosh or Windows introductory course or equivalent is required, and a background in editing, production, or post-production is strongly suggested.

110 - Introduction to Avid Media Composer Effects

This two-day course introduces basic effects and is a prerequisite for the 305 Advanced Avid Media Composer Effects course. Topics include: creating multilayered effects, keyframing effects, creating effect templates, using AVX plug-in effects, creating motion effects and timewarps, using the 3D Effects option,and nesting layers. Class time is divided between demonstration and hands-on-practice. This course is also appropriate for Avid Symphony users.

Prerequisites: Students should have completed the 101 Editing with Avid Media Composer course.
